Guest Blogger: Ronnie Godinez

"There's nothing to do here, you can go thru the whole town in 2 min."

That's what I heard time and time again since Bobby and Jen moved to Boiling Springs.  I thought it was an exaggeration.  Then while driving from the airport to their home  we got off what I now know to be main highway, passed a lamba farm, a house built into a grassy knoll (like hobbits) and so many Baptists churches I lost count.  Followed by graveyards seemingly in the backyards of Kwikie Marts we passed a few stores and a big water tower we arrived at their place. I asked where the Boiling Springs was, Bobby replied, 'We just went thru it'.  Small doesn't quite cut it.  Hacienda Heights is a metropolis in comparison.

The next few days were spent in Atlanta with Cosmo and Erika where they couldn't have been more gracious and giving with their time and patience.  Two babies can wreak havoc with any plans that were originally made and these two adapted admirably and made us feel at home.  Hopefully it gave them a taste of things to come.  Though I get the feeling that Erika will have her on some sort of schedule for feeding...sleeping...life within a few months.    Zoo Atlanta was hot.  But the point wasn't really about being at the zoo, it was about sharing time together and making some fun memories to start the trip off with.  Mission accomplished.

We stayed in Peachtree City at Erika's aunts home.  Beautiful neighborhood where traffic included golf carts instead of automobiles.  Alexia drove. We had BBQ and Smores, watched a 4th of July parade, swam in a pool, watched Erika go off on a lifeguard, had more BBQ, Alexia drove some more and just had a great time all the way around.  On the 5th before leaving back to Boiling Springs, we went to CNN Center, Olympic Centennial Park and the Aquarium.  Lots to do in Atlanta.  Sabrina wasn't impressed, she slept a lot opting to enjoy the family time in homes rather then doing any sightseeing.

Shelby and Boiling Springs.  It's a good thing we enjoyed our hosts so much.  Because if you haven't heard it before, "There's nothing to do" in Boiling Springs.  The girls went to outlets, Bobby gave me a tour of Gardner Webb.  Saw his office where he pretends to work.  Nice view though, a football field.  The rest of the time was one big Friday night.  We ate, we laughed, we joked, we ate some more.  Chiquetas sounded evil, like some machine within the trees ready to pounce on you.  They didn't.  Just kept up there hypnotic chirps/clanks the whole night through.  Saw a spider as big as my fist.  Freaked me out.  Experienced a lightening storm where thunder shakes the house for 20 min. straight.  Bobby and I drove thru it.  We swam, we ate some more.  We learned that Payton sincerely doesn't like her car seat and Sabrina doesn't like her playpen when there's a party going on.  But they liked each other.

Before I go I wanted to add a few things I learned during my 4th of July week:
10. Sabrina sleeps during all the fun stuff ie... pool, aquairum, zoo, but is wide awake for the boring stuff!
RG - Boring is in the eye of the beholder.  She cherishes the family time more so than animals.
9. Ronnie can eat 2 ding dongs at the same time!
RG - I ate more Ding Dongs in one weeks than I had in a whole year.  And not two at the same time, just one in one bite.
8. Alexia likes to text A LOT!
RG - Yes she does.  You haven't spent a lot of time around teens if you don't know this concept.
7. Riding in the car with Steph and Alexia is like being at your own personal concert :)
RG - I get a performance every day.
6. If Ronnie is asleep in the car he will NOT wake up to offer to drive, even if the driver is sick and struggling to live.
RG - Jet lag!  My body thought it was 5am!
5. Sabrina is team Edward
RG - Little vampiress
4. Alexia eats more candy and junk food than I have ever seen one small person ever eat in my life!
RG - Love that teen metabolism.
3. Steph refuses to look at dead bug. Even if the bug is dead in a cup Mr. G has. (This makes Ronnie mad)
RG - If she saw the spider I saw she would have hopped on a plane back home within the hour.
2. Ronnie refuses to try new foods! (This makes Stephanie mad!)
RG - I'll stick to my Ding Dongs.
1. That I miss my friday nights with these people so much :(
RG - It wasn't about where we were or what we were doing.  It was about being back together again.  Soon enough we'll have it all back again.
